Thank You for Supporting the Animals

From all of us at the Adams County SPCA — thank you for your generous donation. Your kindness and compassion directly support the animals who need us most.

Because of supporters like you, we are able to provide safe shelter, nutritious food, medical care, spay/neuter services, and most importantly, love and second chances to animals in need. Every gift, whether given as a general donation, in honor of a loved one, or in memory of a special person or pet, helps make a real and lasting difference.

Celebrating 50 Years of Saving Lives (1976–2026)

This year marks a very special milestone for the Adams County SPCA, our 50th Anniversary. For five decades, we have been committed to protecting animals, supporting responsible pet ownership, and serving the Adams County community with compassion, integrity, and dedication.

Thanks to the generosity of people like you, thousands upon thousands of animals have been rescued, healed, and given a second chance over the past 50 years. Your support today continues a legacy of lifesaving work that began in 1976 and continues stronger than ever.

Your Impact: How Your Support Saves Lives

Your donation doesn’t just help “an animal”; it helps real animals in real situations. Over the years, your support has made it possible for us to step in during some of the most challenging and memorable cases in our organization’s history, including:

The Chihuahua Case (2025)

One of our largest and most well-known cases was in February of 2025. The Adams County SPCA rescued 63 traumatized Chihuahuas from a Straban Township home, where they were found in unsanitary conditions with feces and urine covering the floors. Thanks to donor support, we were able to provide extensive medical care, behavior support, spay/neuter services, and months of daily care, ultimately helping all 63 dogs find loving homes and bright futures. This case is still pending; trial is set for the end of March 2026.

The School Bus Case (2024)

In June of 2024 dozens of animals were discovered living in a school bus and trailer being pulled by the bus in unsafe and unsanitary conditions. The Adams County SPCA stepped in to rescue, care for, and rehabilitate them. Sadly, due to the conditions and trauma some of the animals did not survive. Donations helped cover emergency veterinary care, food, shelter, and the long road to recovery, giving each animal a chance at a healthier, safer life. This case is still pending; trial is set for the end of March 2026.

The Horse Case (2012)

In 2012, we were called about a case involving a significant number of horses being neglected. The horses were extremely malnourished, and several had other several health problems. We also found dead horse covered in hay on the property while 21 Thoroughbred weanlings were seized, ranging in age from 5- 7 months old. Three weanlings later died from extreme starvation. With the help of our community, we provided emergency care, proper nutrition, and long-term support to give these animals a second chance at health and dignity. The remaining horses ended up being in out care of almost 2 years before the case ended. These cases are complex and costly, and donor support made lifesaving intervention possible. The defendant in this case ended up convicted of animal cruelty, and all the remaining horses were signed over the Adams County SPCA and have since been adopted to loving homes.

Clearing the Shelter for Christmas (2023)

In December 2023, something truly special happened, with the help of our incredible community, we were able to clear the shelter for Christmas. Every animal found a home, giving them the best gift of all: a family for the holidays. This was the first time in 47 years the Adams County SPCA had ever been empty and for it to happen over Christmas just made it even more special. This moment was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together for animals.
