Community Service

Any Community Service Participant(s) acting inappropriately or  exhibiting conduct issues will not be tolerated and will be asked politely to leave the premises.  If a Community Service Participant is asked to leave; they will not be permitted to return to fulfill their Service hours with the Shelter; they will need to seek means elsewhere. Undermining the Staff is not tolerated.

The ACSPCA does participate in High School Graduation Community Service Programs and some Court mandated Community Service is accepted.  Court mandated Community Service needs to be authorized by the Shelter Manager prior to approval. There are Rules and Regulations pertaining to our Community Service Programs. Please be sure to fill out the "Mandatory Service" section of the Volunteer application. All accepted Community Service Applicants must attend a Volunteer Orientation prior to beginning service.

Community Service is SERVICE related participation; it will not involve playing, socializing or interacting with animals. The time is spent cleaning and performing the required daily care for the animals at the Shelter, also possibly working on some projects as dictated by the Shelter Manager.  On your first visit, see the staff for a copy of the Community Service Checklist.

It is the participants responsibility to track and log Community Service Time spent in the Shelter. Any Service Time must be presented to and signed off by Shelter Staff upon departure from the Shelter. Community Service Participants are expected to maintain themselves appropriately in our Shelter, they are expected to respect Shelter Staff, focus on the task(s) at hand and get the job accomplished in a timely, efficient and effective manner. Again, any Community Service Participants work directly under the guidance of Shelter Staff on duty.  A Staffer is always available to assist you should a question or concern arise.
