Pet of the Month

My name is Marla. As you can see, I am a pretty little girl with gold-green eyes and gray fur, softened with peach and white highlights. What you'll find out when you meet me, though, is that I have a personality to match my feline beauty. I am sweet, quiet, and shy at first, but pet me, and I'm yours!  I am 3, so I am certainly not old, but I'm not so young that I would tear up your home. I am the perfect age to be your loving companion, and I would especially like to be your only kitty, for I am much happier being with people rather than my own kind. Let's snuggle up together by the window and watch the springtime bloom!

2014 Loyalty Walk - our biggest fundraiser of the year!
Saturday, April 26th

The Loyalty Walk is a three-mile pledge walk on the scenic Gettysburg Battlefield in honor of the bond between humans and our companion animals. Hundreds of farm dogs and family pets went off to war with their owners in the Civil War. These dogs served as mascots, guards, and messengers. Sallie, a Staffordshire bull terrier, was the mascot of the 11th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry. She was known to be feisty and fearless often taking her position at the front lines. Sallie guarded her wounded and dead after the first day's battle on July 1, 1863 until she was found, hungry and weak and returned to her unit. A bronze image of Sallie was laid to rest where she was claimed by a bullet on the Virginia battlefield of Hatcher's Run in February of 1865.

We hope to see you there with your furry friends!!!
All proceeds will directly benefit the shelter.
