Covid-19 Update

The past few months have been a time of great uncertainty. There is a lot of confusion and anxiety centered around the spread of COVID-19 and the possibility of a “second wave”.  As an animal shelter, we understand the importance of our services to the community.  We have put a great deal of effort into researching and strategizing our response to the current outbreak.

We have a lot of people calling wanting to bring their children in just to see the animals or because they just want to get out of the house.  Normally that wouldn’t be a problem but if the staff gets sick, we won’t have anyone to care for the animals so we need to take precautions. We have decided that it is in the best interest of our community and our animals if we close our doors to the public for a while.

It is our hope that this will help to slow the progress of the virus in our community by encouraging and modeling the vital practice of social distancing.  We also have to take into consideration our animals.  We are still housing the 23 Chinese Cresteds from a court case back in August of 2019.  For the past few months, they have only been around the staff, we don’t want to cause them any unneeded stress with the public coming to look at them.  They are NOT up for adoption at this time, we need to wait for court.

That being said;

-  We are still doing adoptions by appointments.  All of our adoptable animals are on our website, adamscountyspca.org  Once you submit your application we will contact you and set up an appointment to meet the animal(s).

-  We are still taking ALL strays from Adams County.  If you have a stray cat(s) we ask that you bring them into the shelter between 9am-1pm Monday-Sunday.  If you have a stray dog please call the Dog Warden at 717-756-4350 or call your local Police Department.

-  We are still doing spay/neuter surgery for the public’s dogs/cats, you need to make ALL appointments on line at https://www.adamscountyspca.org/spay-neuter-services We are NOT doing any wellness appointments at this time.

This decision was not made lightly but we are doing what we think is best for the animals, staff and public. Please watch out facebook page and website for any updates.

Thank you for your continued support in this difficult time.
